I had a green box tube version years ago, sold it to a Rockabilly guy with a Gretsch, and I too have had an itch to try one again. It had the Sound on Sound feature. I'm not sure if they all had that effect. They, and the repros, seem to be all over the map price wise.  Now that the web has reveled repair shops and information that specialize in them, and spare parts too, it would be worth taking a gamble on one. There were just 2 clean tube models that auctioned on eBay as -is for less then 400.
Danelectro used to make a pedal that as supposed to be similar but I never tried one.

I have an EP-2 from the 60's that I picked up in the 70's. It's got 3 small tubes. Never done anything to it except replace the tape once or twice (maybe a tube) and it adds quite a nice punch to whatever ya plug it into. I just keep all those rollers and stuff cleaned up. It is really quiet, however, the little motor makes a mechanical noise and I found that if I stand it up on it's side, it stops making the noise. It just seems so freakin fragile that it stays at home or studio. Good luck on your project. I think it's a piece worth having around. In fact I think I'll plug her up tonight just to fire up those caps.  anim32
